Palo Duro Canyon located 20 miles south of Amarillo, TX, is the place where we experienced our first zip line adventure!! Here’s my family’s Palo Duro Canyon zip line experience.
My son and I sometimes meet my husband in Amarillo which is half way from where we live in Texas to Raton, NM where he works during hunting season. This trip was a couple of years ago, but nonetheless, it was our first zip line experience!!
This particular weekend we had no plans, so when we arrived at the hotel I took a look at the brochures they had and decided to go out to the Palo Duro Canyon. I did not tell Tracy I wanted to zip line because he was a little hesitant about it. Once we got there, I said, “I am zip lining today, and so are you!”
Palo Duro Canyon Zip Line Experience
Palo Duro Canyon is 10 miles out of Canyon, TX. They say it’s a small Grand Canyon. The sky was beautiful and only 70 degrees. That’s perfect seeing that my son and I came from 90 something degrees. Like I said above, I knew I wanted to zip line, but didn’t tell Tracy until we got there. He’s a little afraid of doing it and wouldn’t dare zip line when we were in Montana a couple of months prior. Anyway, we all three signed up $25 each for us and only $5 for Brody since he would ride with Tracy.
Taking the jeep to the zip line area was no problem. Brody had fun riding in the jeep but kept saying he wasn’t going to do the zip line. We thought he’d like it since he bungee jumped every day on our trip to Montana.
So here we go…all geared up and ready to go, right???
Nope, the little one wasn’t going to have anything to do with it at all. So the girl took him back down the stairs and off Tracy went on his first zip line ride. Do you think he liked it? Nope, he didn’t. But my first zip line experience was all I thought it would be – a thrill! The view of the canyon was spectacular.
Good time – Tracy and I can now say we zip lined. AND I can mark that off my bucket list.

I can’t wait to do it again. Next time we go back to Montana we are both going to take the plunge and zip there….and it’s much longer and much higher there!! I just haven’t told my husband yet!!
Zip lining is not for everyone. Have you done it? Or, would you do it?
